Duty of care for wastes stipulates that any person handling or managing hazardous substances or related equipment is ethically responsible for applying the utmost care. Unfortunately, this is not the case at EL-Geneina Hospital of Western Darfur - Sudan simply, because there is no incinerator available.

What’s very unique about EL-Geneina is that it’s very rich in ethnicity and diverse in culture. It’s a home and melting pot for more than 40 tribes. This is apparent in EL-Geneina Souk(Market) where people from diverse backgrounds and ages are something only seen in popular traditional Souks in Khartoum. It lies on the banks of Wadi Kaja where 90% of the city lies on the western bank.

This is an urgent appeal to raise a fund to purchase an environmentally friendly Medical Waste Incineration to protect our people, our animals and our environment. EL-Geneina is the capital city of Western Darfur with a population of over  1 million people.

It has a medical care system of over 400 beds with  poor  clinical waste management. This is resulting in roughly 1.5 tons of weekly waste from medical facilities  which mixed with the  domestic wastes

Children, elderly and animals suffer acute illnesses due to direct exposure to this waste. Ground water resources are dangerously contaminated and unsafe to drink.

Funds raised from this project will be used to establish a modern incinerator that can burn up to 300kg per hour of biomedical wastes. They will be used also to establish training programs for how to handle  clinical waste.

Let’s make this project a reality in order to improve our environment for over 1 million people.
